When people think of Maine, they think of moose, lobsters and lighthouse. Ayuh. Oh and the accent. But along the coast are gorgeous gardens and flora. Coastal Maine Botanical Garden Center has gathered the best of Maine’s coastal gardening – and CNN.com recently took notice with a nice article about this Northern attraction (It’s in Boothbay – so it’s about 2 1/2 hours from the Meadowmere. Which if you are planning a trip up there from Western Mass, CT or further out, Ogunquit makes a good place to take a break – either for a few hours or overnight to recharge).
The Gardens features many art and educational programs (the website is very informative, which is great – you can time your visit with what is in bloom). Plus the site is a Pine Tree Conservation location (that’s another thing we have lots of in Maine – Pine Trees. That list keeps growing!) which means it is part of the plan to preserve special land areas important to habitats and overall ecological health of the state. And if you ever need to know anything about gardens, there are over 2000 volumes in the library alone. Now that’s sure to make a green thumb!
So if you planning a trip up the Maine coast, check out the Coastal Garden Center – you’ll enjoy stopping to smell the roses!
