Today a customer found us online and was helping (aka it has fallen to her) to plan her husband’s family reunion over this summer. After a quick google search yielded our reunion page as a place to plan family reunions in Ogunquit , our resort seemed like a nice fit (thanks!) and she gave our sales department a call.
The rooms portion was easy enough to describe and how we could accommodate her. But she asked a really good question that many people forget when planning a family reunion – what activities can we recommend that they do?
Why is this important? Well, this question is like onions – it has layers of good reasons to be asked! You’ll find out how familiar your contact is with the area, how familiar the hotel is with the family clientele and you’ll look like a hero for planning the reunion in such a fun place – for starters.
So with no further delay – here are some top family activities in the Ogunquit area for your family reunion:
- Ogunquit Beach – 3 ½ miles of sandy beach – need we say more? Sandcastles, kite flying, sun bathing, tide pools, volleyball – the list is endless.
- Marginal Way – 1 ¼ mile walking path with beautiful ocean views. It’s romantic hand in hand – as the kids can crawl all over the rocks to find critters. Best part – Marginal Way connects downtown to our number 3 . . .
- Perkins Cove – ice cream, lobster rolls, cruises, art shacks and the coolest drawbridge to watch lobster boats from.
- Ogunquit Village – shop, shop, shop. Neat little boutiques (Spoiled Rotten is a guest favorite) and specalites (do not miss Harbor Candy Shop – Willy Wonkaesque and delightful). A great idea is to plan a mini-treasure hunt for the little ones and young at heart to explore and enjoy
- Lobster & Lighthouse Cruises – of course there is the standard ‘booze cruise’ but really for families the sunset, lobster (yes – you really see them gather lobsters) and lighthouse cruise (to the Nubble) are the best. You can spend half a day or half an hour – whatever fits the families sea legs.
- Sailing Cruises – A little bit slower pace might be more appropriate and with the help of your captain, you and the family can set sail along Ogunquit Beach for the day or for a sunset sail.
- Hang Ten and Learn to Surf – Maybe you come from a long line of adventure and thrill seekers. Maybe. But even if you don’t, Liquid Dreams provides a great lesson programs for individuals or groups. Wet suits, boards and instruction are a real deal. And if you’re stoked about surfing afterwards, it’s a great place to find all your gear.
- MiniGolf – That’s right. The windmill is calling. Wonder Mountain offers multiple courses to choose from – so grab you mini-putter, colored ball and tiny pencil. It’s time to take the family title of Champion Mini Golfer from your cousin.
- Stonewall Kitchen Cooking School (where you’ll do the tasting) – This one has an added bonus – as a Meadowmere Stay reward, you’ll get 10% of. But aside from that, the cooking school is a fun, relaxed choice and if you’re family is larger enough, you can arrange for the staff to host a private function. Who knows – when you’re done, maybe you’ll have the next family recipe. And who doesn’t what to find out how they make that awesome blueberry jam!
- Yoga lessons- Another Meadowmere Stay reward with a discount. After running around planning this whole thing, a little breather is the best. (A little yoga tip – they say the family baggage is in the hips – who knew?)
- Golf (the real deal) – 3 local options: Links at Outlook Farm, Cape Neddick County Club, and the Ledges in York. In order, semi-hard/will make it, harder/take a little practice in and hardest/bring moral support for the non-golfers in the family.
- Zoo & Amusement Park at York Wild Kingdom – Another Meadowmere Stay reward discount. Check out Maine’s only white tiger and let the little ones run wild – like the animals.
- Shopping at the Kittery Outlets – A Meadowmere Stay reward too. For the family power shoppers (there’s always one) – deals, discounts and just about everything under the sun.
Feel free to post a comment with some of your families favorites – we know there’s so much more!
