Ahh, the smell of the ocean! Whether that brings to mind time spent as kid boogie boarding or is just your second favorite scent to surf wax – you can certainly count on finding fun surf spots near Ogunquit.
Here are our top surf spots & shops in Ogunquit
Ogunquit Beach River Mouth
Often called the best beach in New England, there are endless possibilities that come with over three miles of sand. And one of them is surfing. With the swift Ogunquit River current and the ability to catch the tide change, a seasoned surfer will enjoy the waves and the scenery. Best when the tide is incoming from dead low. The local scene is very tight for Lobster Point, but up the beach open waves can be found.
Short Sands Beach
Sure a day at the beach is nice, but at Short Sands it’s a special ride if you can catch it. The wave is fickle, but can be a goofyfooter’s dream when it’s working. This beach offers steep, fast, hollow lefts with an occasional right. Perfect conditions for this spot can be a tricky – it’s uncommon for the winds to blow just right. But when the wind does, this spot on high tide is fun. Tip: Surf it outside of summer, when catching one here is strictly forbidden.

Long Sands Beach
If long boarding is your game, then Long Sands Beach maybe your spot. With a long shelf, the waves tend to be perfect for a relaxing or beginners day. And if you feel an adventure, paddle out to see the Nubble Light from ocean vantage.
Fortunes Rocks Beach
This spot has fairly consistent surf since it is an exposed break. Pretty reliable to work year round too (if you can take the winter cold with the locals). Left or right shoulder and generally best mid-low tide.
Higgins Beach
With changing sand bars and local tides of up to 10ft, this surf spot is a different session every day. It’s known for holding huge overhead well, but conditions can be fickle. Southeast to South swell is ideal for chest to double overhead high. And if your not quite sure what that means, see Long Sands Beach.
