Patriot’s Day Festival in Ogunquit
Ahh, the colors, sights and sounds of, well, mud season. Don’t let that deter you. April is here, and with it comes one of Ogunquit’s best festivals of the year: Patriot’s Day. Held in April each year – so you can think of it as sign of Spring – the festival is highlighted by a weekend of costumed characters and reenactments.
Here are our top five things to do at Patriot’s Day Festival
Historical Treasure Hunt
Ogunquit is full of historic buildings and landmarks. And our village is known as an art community. – What better way to enjoy both than to head out on a treasure hunt and draw the buildings and flags found throughout the town. Enter your booklet – there’s actual treasure at stake here!
Leavitt Theatre Showing
Take in a showing and feel like you are back in time. Afterwards, stroll Main Street of Ogunquit for a souvenir or check out Harbor Candies for amazing locally made chocolate.
Fife & Drum Concert and Parade
Everyone loves a parade – especially one with fife and drums playing authentic revolutionary music. March along to the tunes that inspired the land of the free and learn the heritage of colonial fife playing. Turns out this little instrument played a big role!
Taste of the Town & Pie Contest
Pack your appetite. Local restaurants serve up their special dishes to share the best of Ogunquit’s cuisine. And local bakers put their best pie forward to be crowned Ogunquit’s best pie. You never know who may stop by – even Paul Revere has made an appearance at this Patriot’s Day tradition.
Patriotic Pooches & Racing Ducks
Not just for the animal lover – these Patriot’s Day shenanigans bring out the laughs and competition. From ‘Babs’ the First Lady Poodle to ‘Abe Lincoln’ Labradors, the costumes are creative and delightful. Dress up and strut you mutt for prizes. And if Fido can’t make the trip, fear not – you can always put a (rubber) duck in the Cub Scout Duck race down Ogunquit River!
Still not sure about Patriot’s Day?
Add a little extra fun with a hike at Mt. Agamenticus or a drive to the top to see the sights of Spring. Ogunquit from this view is absolutely charming. Be sure to bring your camera. There really is nothing as refreshing as the crisp Maine air, making it perfect for enjoying the outdoors or walking by the sea.
