Labor Day in Ogunquit
Ahh, a long weekend by the Sea! Sure it is the end of summer and there cool evenings are on the way – but with Labor Day in Ogunquit comes one of our favorite things: the end of season sale. Always on the first Monday of September, the weekend is highlighted by sales and enjoyable sunsets in Ogunquit.
Here are our top five things to do on Labor Day Weekend in Ogunquit
Sure, the Kittery Outlets are minute down Route 1, but have you seen the traffic? Stay put and take advantage of the boutique shops right here in Ogunquit. From Abacus to On the Main, Life is Good to Swamp John’s Jewelry – you will have much more fun strolling Main Street and the Cove. You can even window shop with the last ice cream cone of the summer. Well, at least until Indian Summer.
Mr. Gay Ogunquit Speedo Pageant
Yes, the weekend is about relaxing for many – but if you are heading for a walk down Ogunquit Beach, well, hit the gym first. Held each year on Labor Day, there will be six-pack abs to accompany your stroll and lots of cheering. It’s a coveted title – though if you don’t win, there is always the high heel dash in the Fall.
Sure a day at the beach is nice, but hear the call of the sea. Check out the beautiful sights of the Southern Maine – like Bald Head Cliff and the Nubble Light – from a FinestKind cruise. One of the best adventures for kids is a lobstering tour. You’ll departed from Perkins Cove on an authentic lobster boat and help a real Maine lobsterman haul in lobster pots while learning about the history and process of lobster fishing. You’ll also be steps away from Barnacle Billy’s and the Lobster Shack – you know, to try some of the product when back on land.
Soar to incredible heights – or watch the kids zip line. Located just south in Kittery, you’ll soon find yourself meeting the aerial course challenge with gusto. From the lobster trap to spider’s web, cat walks to Burma bridges, you’ll be making memories together and laughing. Yes, laughing – those harnesses and helmets bring a chuckle.
Craft Beer Pub Crawl
Of course we all know that beer goes with that Labor Day BBQ. But here in Maine, we like our craft beer a whole lot. So check out a flight of locally made Maine beer at Cornerstone in Ogunquit or hop from Tributary Brewery in Kittery to SOME Brewers in York to Shipyard in Eliot to Federal’s Jacks in Kennebunk. Just be sure to designate whose drivin’!
